Sweden — Lead times in the detailed development planning and building permit processes have risen to an average of 5.1 years, despite a decline in the volume of cases. This is shown by the National Lead Time Index for 2026. By working more in parallel and involving building permits and design earlier, time can be cut – while lengthy processes entail significant costs for both developers and society.
