Since last spring, NCC and the city of Rovaniemi have collaborated in the early phase to plan and prepare construction documents to both expand and renovate the existing school in the Nivavaara district. The parties have now signed an agreement for the first stage of the project, which includes the construction of a new school building, a new sports hall and renovation work on the school grounds and the adjacent sports field.

"NCC has extensive experience in building schools. When we participate at an early stage, we can contribute valuable knowledge throughout the entire construction process. Together with the city of Rovaniemi, we are now building a healthy, innovative and safe school with good learning environments," says , business area manager NCC Building Nordics.

The new school building will be 10,600 square meters in size and will house premises for various types of activities such as school, sports, preschool and adult education. The premises will also be used by sports associations, parishes and clubs. The new building has been named Napsu.

The second stage of the project includes the renovation of the existing Nivavaara school and an agreement for this assignment will be signed later.

Construction has begun and the building is expected to be completed in the summer of 2025 and the remaining parts in the fall of 2026.

The assignment amounts to approximately SEK 400 million and the order will be registered in the third quarter of 2023 in the NCC Building Nordics business area.
