In central Uppsala, the development of Södra City is underway – a new urban district featuring offices, housing, hotels, meeting spaces, and green areas. The project is being carried out in close collaboration with Uppsala Municipality, aiming to link the northern central parts of the city with the Kungsängen residential area in the south and create a new connection between Uppsala Central Station in the east and the Fyris River in the west.

Three office buildings – Juvelen, Magasin X, and Lumi – are already in place, and planning is underway for another hotel and office building, Hjärta. The sale of the residential development rights marks the next phase of the area's transformation, with approximately 400 homes to be built near the Fyris River.
"Uppsala is an attractive city to live and work in and is growing rapidly. With the development of Södra City, we are helping to shape the city’s continued growth. Our ambition is to create a vibrant and dynamic district where businesses and people thrive, and the residential component plays a crucial role," says Martin Kron, Head of Investments and Projects at Vasakronan.

JM will take possession of the site once the property reallocation gains legal approval, which is expected in Q2 2026.
"Uppsala is a growing municipality where JM has been active for 50 years. This acquisition enables us to continue, in collaboration with Vasakronan, the development of central Uppsala with a neighborhood beautifully located by the Fyris River and in close proximity to the central station, city park, and historic center. We know there is strong demand for modern, environmentally certified JM homes in this location," says Per Johansson, Regional Director East, JM Bostad Riks.
