The contract involves building an underground commuter train station and about 2 kilometers of railway tunneling and the order value is EUR 470M. The award decision for the contract was communicated by NCC in May 2016.

“NCC is constructing two phases of the West Link project, which is a crucially important project for an expanding, attractive and sustainable Western Sweden. Our previous involvement with the City Tunnel in Malmö and the Stockholm City Line, have given us valuable experience in terms of sustainable technical solutions and the use of leading-edge technology in civil engineering works,” says Nils Bjelm, Division Manager Civil Engineering, NCC Infrastructure.

The assignment consists of the construction of a new bridge over the E6 Highway in the east, a railway trough, a rock tunnel through Gullberget, a concrete tunnel in clay, the Station Centralen underground commuter train station located immediately north of Gothenburg Central Station and the remaining concrete tunnel to the west up to the Gothenburg Opera House, a section of nearly 2 kilometers.

“Early entry into a project of this magnitude offers us an opportunity to create joint understanding of the challenges that a project of this type involves. We will be arranging a Nordic collaboration within NCC for this project and will be engaging the specialist know-how of Nordic large projects,” says Per Kinell, Regional Manager Civil Engineering, NCC Infrastructure.

Production will start immediately with preparatory work and tunnel construction will begin in autumn 2018. The project is scheduled to continue until 2026.

The EUR 470M order will be registered in the first quarter of 2018 in the NCC Infrastructure business area.
