With a total investment of approximately DKK 1 billion, Sampension and AKF are making a significant mark on the Danish hotel market. The acquisition of this modern hotel property in central Nordhavn—with 484 rooms, conference facilities, and direct access to both the metro and waterfront—is a strategic step in their joint effort to build a shared portfolio. The deal also strengthens the well-established partnership between Sampension and AKF, which already includes the Comwell Køge Strand hotel property and the upcoming project ‘Fremtidens Brøndby Strand’.

“We are pleased to continue building a robust and future-oriented hotel portfolio with the investment in Portside, which is a highly functional hotel and conference property. The property has long-term potential, supported by the continued strong development of Nordhavn, which we expect will generate attractive returns for our pension customers. We also value the deepening of our cooperation with both AKF and Comwell,” says Torbjørn Lange, Head of Real Estate and Infrastructure at Sampension.

The hotel was developed and completed in 2021 by Nordstern (formerly KPC) with architecture by Arkitema. The prominent building on Alexandriagade comprises over 25,000 m² and was constructed with a focus on functionality, modern building standards, and vibrant urban life—offering direct access to the metro, waterfront, and international connections.

“The Portside property represents the perfect intersection of strong architecture, efficient operations, and urban vibrancy. The hotel is located in a district teeming with business activity, international tourism, and local life—and it is within this dynamic mix that we see long-term value. Our collaboration with Sampension is a strength, and Comwell is an experienced and trusted operator with whom we’ve had a longstanding partnership. For these reasons, we at AKF are extremely pleased with the transaction,” says Ino Dimsits, CEO of AKF.

The property is currently owned by AP Ejendomme and the Finnish pension fund Keva:

“We are very satisfied with the investment in the Comwell Portside property, which has been an exciting project contributing to the development of Nordhavn and creating value for the customers of both AP Pension and Keva. We are pleased to hand over the reins to AKF and Sampension, who share our enthusiasm for the property's potential,” says Peter Olsson, CEO of AP Ejendomme.

Comwell Hotels will continue to operate the hotel in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn:

“Comwell Copenhagen Portside is one of our most popular urban hotels—both among Danish and international guests. We are pleased that the property will now be owned by AKF and Sampension, who have deep industry knowledge and a strong understanding of our operational approach. We look forward to continuing our development in collaboration with the new owners,” says Peter Schelde, CEO of Comwell Hotels.

Through this acquisition, Sampension and AKF further strengthen their shared commitment to high-quality properties in prime locations. The investment adds to a growing portfolio of hotel properties operated by Comwell on a long-term basis and marks yet another step in developing centrally located destinations that attract guests while creating value for the city.
