The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding in response to the growing need for new prison places and, as part of this initiative, capacity at the Skogome correctional facility will increase from approximately 200 to 800 places. The project is in the form of a construction contract, and NCC has been commissioned to construct two residential units for inmates and associated waste recycling centers at the Skogome facility in Gothenburg.
“Correctional facilities are complex projects that demand specialist expertise and strong commitment from the contractor. NCC is involved in the construction of a large number of correctional facilities and other high-security projects, enabling us to draw on valuable experience as we now expand the Skogome correctional facility,” says Niklas Sparw, Head of NCC Building Sweden.
NCC has extensive experience of working on security classified projects. In recent years, it has put structures and systems in place to meet the specific requirements of these projects, including advanced security solutions, technical expertise, specialized logistics and secure information management across all phases of the project. NCC also has a dedicated team of experts for these projects, ensuring that key know-how is shared across the Group.
NCC has previously constructed Salix, the National Board of Forensic Medicine’s forensic psychiatry investigation unit, located directly adjacent to the Skogome correctional facility.
Construction on the project will commence in early 2027 and is scheduled for completion in 2029.
The order value is approximately SEK 290 million and will be registered in the NCC Building Sweden business area in the fourth quarter of 2026.
