The school will be developed in the growing residential area of Pasila in Helsinki. The building will replace the temporary school premises currently on site. Construction is planned to start in the summer of 2025 and the construction period will be approximately two years. The building, which will have an A-energy rating, will use locally produced energy, such as geothermal heat, air-to-water heat pumps and solar panels.

“It is exciting to be involved in developing a public building that will become a landmark for the new residential area. We have had a very good collaboration with the City of Helsinki in the ongoing development projects, and we can benefit from the experience we have gained in other projects together with the city. Hemsö’s focus is on delivering premises that best meet the needs of our tenants,” says Kirsi Viheriäranta, Project Manager at Hemsö.

The Pasila school will be Hemsö’s fifth education project with the City of Helsinki in recent years, with previous development projects including several school buildings that create a total of 2,800 new school places.

“Together with the contractor, we are carefully planning safe access routes for the students. The courtyard of the temporary school will also be adapted to interact with the construction site,” says Kirsi Viheriäranta.
