For several years, Kjetil Martinsen has served as Chief Economist and Head of Swedbank’s Credit and Macro Research division. He is a frequent keynote speaker and is often quoted in national media. He now assumes the role of Head of Research at Malling, following Haakon Ødegaard, who led the department for many years and will now become Head of the company’s Transactions division.
“We are always on the lookout for top talent. With Kjetil Martinsen on board, we are strengthening and reinforcing our position as the leading research environment in the commercial real estate industry. Martinsen brings substantial banking experience and possesses macroeconomic and market insights that will be of great value to us and our clients,” says Anders Berggren, CEO of Eiendomshuset Malling & Co.
Berggren emphasizes that thorough and high-quality analysis forms the foundation for virtually all of the company’s advisory services, including transactions, development, and leasing of commercial properties. Over the past 15 years, Malling has built the country's largest—and, in its own view, leading—professional environment for research, valuation, and advisory services within commercial real estate. The company is one of four divisions under Eiendomshuset Malling & Co and currently comprises 15 full-time employees. Martinsen will lead the Research division.
“This is a star signing and a strong message to the market about our ambitions. We had a very competitive field of candidates during the recruitment process, and Kjetil emerged as the clear choice. His recruitment confirms that we have established a leading position and are now attractive to some of the top talents in the financial market. Having the leading research environment is central to Malling, making this a highly important appointment for us,” Berggren adds.
Malling’s strong focus on research was one of the key reasons why Kjetil Martinsen chose to join the firm.
“The past five years have clearly highlighted the value of high-quality analysis in the real estate market. Together with my new colleagues, we will link global developments with the Norwegian economy and tie them more closely to the factors directly impacting the commercial real estate market. I believe my background in banking, especially in credit and macro analysis, will further enhance Malling’s research capabilities. Macro and market perspectives play a vital role in commercial real estate, and I am excited to join such a strong professional environment where the importance of sound analysis is highly valued,” says Martinsen, who also expresses his gratitude for his time at Swedbank.
“It has been an enriching and rewarding experience,” he adds.
Andreas Staubo Boasson, incoming Head of Malling’s Valuation, Advisory, and Research division, also expresses great enthusiasm about Martinsen’s arrival.
“This is a top-tier recruitment, and we are very pleased to welcome Kjetil Martinsen as our new Head of Research. Together with Kjetil and the rest of the team, we aim to revitalize and modernize our research and advisory services. In doing so, we will maintain and strengthen our leading position, and ensure we are fully equipped to deliver the highest quality advice to our clients,” concludes Staubo Boasson.
Kjetil Martinsen will begin his new role at Malling on September 1st.
