A new building is being built in central Gothenburg for the School of Economics at the University of Gothenburg, which will enable the faculty to gather at the same address. The new building will also create more appropriate and modern learning environments for both employees and students. That assignment went to Serneke Sverige, but after the bankruptcy earlier this year, work has come to a standstill. Peab has been commissioned to complete the project, which includes a 10,800 square meter building spread over eight floors and a basement. The building will include a new main entrance, two auditoriums, student services, a café, offices and student workplaces.
The new building will have an entrance to the upcoming Station Haga within the Västlänken, which integrates the School of Economics even more into the city's structure and improves commuting options for both students and employees.
"We look forward to starting this project together with Akademiska Hus. Since the operations will run in parallel with our work, we must handle logistical challenges that place high demands on us as an entrepreneur. Our experience from similar inner-city projects will be valuable experiences in this project", says Stellan Haraldsson, Regional Manager at Peab.
"The new building for the School of Economics will be a fantastic knowledge environment that strengthens both research and education in the middle of central Gothenburg. We are pleased to be able to contribute to the development of the school with a modern and sustainable building, and look forward to having Peab as a partner when the project is now completed", says Ali Ranji, Project Director at Akademiska Hus.
The construction of the School of Economics is characterized by solid sustainability work with carefully selected materials. For example, the marble floor from the older building that stood on the site is being reused and will be used for a footbridge in the new building.
The assignment is a turnkey contract in collaboration. Work will start immediately and the goal is for the project to be completed in 2027.
The project will be ordered in the first quarter of 2025.
