NCC will construct a new school in Surahammar based on the existing construction documents for a school built by NCC in Norrköping in 2020. The school consists of two parallel buildings with the capacity to accommodate 400 students from preschool to Year 6. The ambition is to utilize modularity and repetition to cost efficiently develop a functional and sustainable school.

“The idea was to find an existing school that we could evaluate in real life. Usually, you have to do this on the drawing board, but this approach allowed us to walk around the building and interview teachers, the school principal and the caretaker to get their thoughts on how everything works at the school. In terms of quality, architecture and planning, NCC was the contractor that presented the best solution for us,” says Fredrik Cederblom, Chief Executive Officer of Surahammar Municipality.

In addition to educational facilities, the building also includes classrooms for practical aesthetic subjects, a kitchen and a canteen. The aim is that the outdoor environment will also encourage physical activity, according to the Municipality’s plans. The total construction area of the project is 6,000 square meters.

“In this unique procurement process, we have engaged in constructive dialogue with the Municipality to identify the best school to meet their needs. We have been given the opportunity to leverage the experience and expertise we have gained from building schools around Sweden. NCC will deliver a functional school that our customer has actually been able to visit, get a sense of and ask questions about,” says Tony Ringdahl, Business Manager at NCC Building Sweden.

Production will commence in the first quarter of 2026 and is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2027. The order value is approximately SEK 175 million and will be registered in the NCC Building Sweden business area in the fourth quarter of 2025.
